Core Concepts Promotional Exam Series

The Core Concepts promotional exam series is written from a custom-made source material, Core Concepts for Law Enforcement Management, which is a compilation of six leading law enforcement training texts. Chapters from each of these six texts were specifically selected for Core Concepts to cover key topics: supervision and management, community-oriented policing, law enforcement administration, ethics, field operations, and Constitutional law. Through an extensive job analysis, these topics were identified by command-ranking law enforcement personnel as essential job knowledge areas in varying degrees for all command levels within a law enforcement agency.

Supervisory Levels Assessed

First-Line Supervisor Assesses basic supervisory knowledge relevant for the ranks of corporal and sergeant.

Middle Manager Assesses knowledge bases foundational to functioning as a mid-level manager in law enforcement agencies. This exam is appropriate for the lieutenant rank or its equivalent in medium to large agencies.

Upper Command  Assesses management and supervision principles necessary to guide law enforcement agencies. This exam was designed for the assessment of captains, commanders, majors, and assistant/deputy chiefs.
